Aluminum products used in mold manufacturing mainly include medium hardness 5/6 series aluminum alloys and high hardness 2/7 series aluminum alloys. 5000 series aluminum plate is based on magnesium as the main alloying elements of aluminum alloy, also known as magnesium alloy, the alloy states include O state, HXX and HXXX state. 6-series aluminum alloy is an extruded alloy with Al-Mg-Si elements added. Currently, more than 70% of the world’s aluminum extrusion is produced from 6-series alloys.
According to the use of molds and features, aluminum alloy sheet plate also need to have anti-corrosion properties and oxidation resistance. Alloys required for die plates are typically high-strength, heat-treatable alloys that require good mechanical properties, handleability, and ease of processing.
5052 aluminum plate is a series of hot-rolled aluminum plate, the use of continuous casting and rolling process with good formability, corrosion resistance, weldability, oxidation deep processing performance,it is the best choice for aluminum mold making.
6061 aluminum plate after heat treatment pre-stretching process, although its strength can not be compared with 2XXX series or 7XXX series aluminum alloy plate, but its magnesium, silicon alloy and more, has good processing properties, excellent welding characteristics. And its electroplating resistance, corrosion resistance, high toughness and deformation after processing, the material is dense and defect-free and easy to polish, the color film is easy, the oxidation effect is excellent.
The O and T4 state of 6082 aluminum plate is suitable for bending and forming occasions, its T5 and T6 state is suitable for good machinability requirements of the mold. 6082 aluminum plate corrosion resistance and wear resistance are better which has a good processing performance, excellent welding characteristics. And its electroplating resistance, corrosion resistance, high toughness and deformation after processing, the material is dense and defect-free,it can be also used for tanker body and other products with higher performance requirements on the finished product.
