With the increasing social demand for energy saving, car manufacturers are in pursuit of lightweight products. Boasting a low density and an excellent tensile strength, aluminium sheet plates become the best candidates, represented by 5052 aluminium sheet and aluminium plate 5083. The two are favored by the automobile and auto parts processing industries because of their advantages of high strength, good stretchability and high corrosion resistance. Their application in car is generally concentrated in doors, engine gearbox casings, frames, interior ornaments, floors and so on.
5052 aluminium sheet has low density, high specific stiffness, good elasticity, super processing performance, high recycling efficiency and excellent resistance to impact, corrosion, wear, easy surface coloring and so on. It is one of the commonly used automotive aluminum plates. At present, “aluminum-based steel” is becoming a major trend in the current automotive industry. The 5052 aluminum plate is mainly used for the inner panel of the car body, the skin of the car, the door of the car and the sheet metal parts. The practical application effect is very good and the market recognition is high.
The aluminium plate 5083 is considered to be one of the conventional aluminum plates for fuel tanks. The sheet is often used in applications requiring high corrosion resistance, good weldability, medium strength, high plasticity and good weldability, like low load parts working in liquid or gaseous media, including ships, tank cars, curtain walls, subways, fuel tanks, gas storage cylinders, molds, LNG storage tanks, bus skins, C82 coal trucks, car roof/bottom guards, flange materials, GIS shells, etc. The hardness of 5083 aluminium plate is significantly higher than 5052 ones, and the plate is a representative of the ultra-hard aluminum plate in the 5000 series.
Due to the obvious weight reduction effect, the application of aluminum alloy in automobile bodies is expanding. Lightweight vehicles can reduce vehicle weight, improve vehicle power, reduce fuel consumption, and reduce environmental pollution while ensuring vehicle strength and safety. In addition to 5052 aluminium sheet and aluminium plate 5083 , there are also 2 series, 6 series and 7 series aluminum alloys used in automobiles. The uses of the 6 Series and the 5 Series are largely the same. The 2 and 7 series are hard aluminum alloys for automotive parts with higher rigidity requirements, such as automotive wheels, engine frames and other components that require load bearing.
